Gabe Hascall was born and raised in Austin and grew up
listening (almost exclusively) to The Beatles and Willie
Nelson. He understood from an early age the power of
melody and that every once in a while a simple song can be
transcendent. Gabe was a founding member of local
legends The Impossibles and later, Slowreader, a band that after
releasing just one album, has achieved cult-like status. His
solo music is familiar in intangible ways but also incredibly
unique - no one writes like him. Sometimes the songs are
stripped down to guitar and vocals and sometimes they’re
layered to the limit but the melody, lyrics and chords are
always refined and deliberate. After spending most of the
last decade stockpiling songs in the Pacific Northwest, Gabe
has returned home to Austin and is releasing his new album,
“Thousands of Thorns” on Austin Town Hall Records. He
lives in bliss with his wife and two daughters.
